Brooklyn, Michigan hit by a storm

Last night, a storm moved through our area that knocked the power out. Normally, we just dig out the camping supplies. We've gone as long as a week in the summer without electricity using the camping gear. The only thing we worry about is the refrigerator.

Yesterday when I went to get the battery powered light we use for camping, the batteries were dead. That just shows, everyone needs to have an emergency kit ready with fresh batteries.

We have been cleaning out the back and reorganizing the camping gear so next is to dig out the necessary gear and make sure we can get to it and that it's functional in case of a power outage. Candles are too much of a fire hazard so we go for the battery backups.

This morning, the power was still out. My husband, our collie, and I went down to the lake and saw why the power was out. A tree which had apparently been stuck by lightening not only destroyed our neighbors roof but there was a power line on the ground. Fortunately, no one lives in the house year round so it was vacant.
